The Story

I can say with 100% conviction that raising a child with attention deficit disorder has been the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. It has required more patience than any human being should have to muster and yet somehow I seem to be able to find the ability to do so over and over again. It never ceases to amaze me!

If there is one piece of advice that I would give to a parent going through the same thing, it would be to “Love and support your child unconditionally”. Why? Because he or she is going to be judged, criticized, bullied etc. etc. enough in his or her life without you jumping on the band wagon, and he/she will NEED you by his/her side.

Interestingly enough, I can also say that it’s through this experience that I’ve learned the most in my life. I’ve read and read and read and listened and listened and listened, only to realize there’s so much to know! But, it’s only served to make me more curious and more committed to understanding ADD.

Of the many treatments we, as a family, tried over the years, life coaching with a coach specialized in ADD/ADHD worked wonders. It took some time to find a coach that would work with young folks AND we drove 1 hour and 20 minutes each way, but it was well worth it. She helped us to understand different aspects of ADD and why those with ADD do what they do. This bit of knowledge proved to be quite powerful and helped to relieve much of the stress within our household. Through this experience I realized that some of the trials and tribulations my daughter had gone through were avoidable. Much of the stress, unnecessary!

This is when I decided to become an ADD coach myself. It is my passion to help ADDers and the people in their lives believe that they can achieve anything. They are bright, creative and capable; they just need to know it!
